The Thiruvananthapuram Metropolis police on Saturday arrested a number of activists of the Bharatiya Janata Occasion (BJP)’s Mahila Morcha who protested towards the alleged police corruption that led to the acquittal of the accused within the rape and homicide of a six-year-old baby at a tribal settlement in Vandiperiyar in Idukki.
5 Mahila Morcha activists have been initially detained after they trespassed into the official residence of State Police Chief Sheikh Darvesh Saheb. Whereas the safety lapse pushed the safety wing on the defensive, the police claimed they posed as petitioners and had obtained no prior sanction for demonstration.
The incident occurred round 9.30 a.m. when Mr. Saheb was current in his residence. Quickly, the police rushed a number of girls cops to forcibly take away the protesters who raised slogans exterior the home.
Later, a number of Mahila Morcha activists laid siege to the highway at Althara Junction as they threatened to escalate the protest. The demonstration turned unruly when the protesters blocked a police jeep and entered into an altercation with the police personnel. The activists have been subsequently taken into custody and brought to the Armed Reserve Camp the place their arrests have been recorded by the Museum police.
The protesters accused the Left Democratic Entrance authorities of defending Arjun, the accused within the Vandiperiyar case, who they alleged was an activist of the CPI(M)-feeder organisation Democratic Youth Federation of India.
